The Goldfinch Room: Society of Broken Souls

Back to Events

The Iowa State Center and Ames Community Arts Council have announced the next scheduled Iowa Songwriter Showcase in the Goldfinch Room for Friday, September 20. Songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Dennis James and Lauryn Shapter from Society of Broken Souls will grace the stage at 7pm.

The Goldfinch Room is a newly created space on the ground floor of Stephens Auditorium on the Iowa State Center campus. Nestled inside the Celebrity Café on the ground floor, this listening room provides great acoustics in an intimate setting for approximately 80 people.

Society of Broken Souls is the songwriting duo of multi-instrumentalists Dennis James and Lauryn Shapter. Performing their own brand of American Roots Music, they write unflinching songs that confront our shared, raw humanity while celebrating the beautiful mosaic of the human experience. Having performed in 34 states from coast to coast over the last decade, their live show features seamless harmony vocals and a wide array of instruments and sounds. From stripped down, bare-bones acoustic arrangements to a denser and edgier electric sound, their songs invite the listener to walk through the fire with them — and to find freedom, strength and courage on the other side.

Reserved tables with seating for four (4) are available for $40 or for two (2) for $25. Food options will include cheese platters, hummus tray, popcorn, cookies, and candy, along with a selection of wines, craft and domestic beers, and sodas.
