Brunnier Art Museum

Brunnier Art Museum

Built as the final component of the Iowa State Center, the Brunnier Art Museum formally opened its doors on September 19, 1975, as the Henry J. Brunnier Galleries on the top floor of the Carl H. Scheman Continuing Education Building. The museum’s debut followed the earlier completion of C.Y. Stephens Auditorium (1969), James H. Hilton Coliseum (1971), and J.W. Fisher Theatre (1974), fulfilling President James H. Hilton’s visionary dream of an educational, cultural, and athletic complex conceived in 1954. The museum was named after Henry J. Brunnier and his wife, Ann Weideman Brunnier, who made transformative gifts to establish Iowa State’s first campus art museum. Today, the museum’s permanent collection has grown to over 28,000 objects through gifts from more than 600 patrons.

The Brunnier Art Museum presents several exhibitions annually—all with free admission, connecting a historic collection to contemporary artists working in innovative ways while serving as an essential educational resource for Iowa State students and the public. Each visit offers fresh perspectives and discoveries that stay with you long after you leave.
