Arts Midwest World Fest presents
Esta
Thursday, April 30, 2009 • 10 am
Recommended for grade levels 4 - 12
Esta is a unique band whose innovative music combines the aromas of world music, the power of rock, and the spirit of jazz into a powerful, energetic new sound. Coming from Israel, a crossroads of different cultures, the band has created a rich, hot musical “stew” simmering with Mediterranean, Balkan, African, Asian, Celtic and Western flavors. The group uses a variety of instruments from the familiar guitars, drums, and bagpipes to the exotic zorna, nay, and jumbush. Esta’s Shlomo Deshet even lists “pots and pans” among his instruments.
Besides performing at the White House and touring extensively in the U.S. and Israel, Esta has played at notable venues in Italy, Belgium, and France. The band has shared the stage with artists such as Suzanne Vega, Noa, The Chieftains, and Sinéad O’Connor.
Artist Residency: April 26 - May 2
