Production Personnel
Stage hands utilized are either I.A. or local college students with permit. Students are members of house crew and are experienced.
Auditorium is in the jurisdictional area of IATSE Local 67 -- contact Stephens technical director for stage hand information. Stage hands are directly responsible to Stephens Technical Director.
Specialized staff can be provided, at sponsor's cost, with ample prior notification. Ushers, stage hands, concessionaires, security personnel, box office personnel, parking attendants, custodians and medical attendants provided.

General Stage Information
Proscenium opening is 70' x 30'
Stage floor is 80' wide by 50' deep, but note trapezoidal floorplan.
Curtain line to edge of apron is 9'
Clear height above stage floor is 69'
There is an orchestra pit which accommodates 125 musicians (movable hydraulic-from stage level to basement)
125 orchestra chairs, stands and lights available
Limited 3' x 8' risers and 4' x 8' risers available in 6" increments, maximum height 6'
Stage floor is natural sealed hardwood, Perma cushion with rubber pads. Use of stage screws is permitted. A portable Marley black dance floor is available.
Projection
Rear projection: rear wall to stage front is 80', height 30' (no screen in house)
Front projection: rear of hall to stage front in 130'; no obstructions
Best front projection is from Row 11 main floor (no booth at that location)
Front projection screen available (size: 18'w x 20'h)
35mm Xenon slide projector available.

Two 2kw Xenon Super Trouper follow spots in booth 156' from front curtain, third is available if schedule permits.
This lighting inventory is shared with other buildings managed by the Iowa State Center. Consequently, the total number of instruments indicated may not be available in Stephens on any given date.
The Stephens Technical Director can advise on the inventory available for any specific event.
No in-town equipment rental house.
Sound
Auditorium acoustics are excellent; minimal reinforcement is required.
Sound system consists of : custom designed JBL cabinets permanently mounted in proscenium.

Preferred road mix location: Row 27 main floor center - 120' from curtain line (requiring 250' of cable)

Dressing Rooms and Facilities
Locked room can be provided with advance notice and one additional stage hand for security.
At stage level: 5 (1-4 capacity) rooms on SR.
At up one level: 2 chorus (40 each) rooms SR.
Down one level: orchestra 15 women and orchestra 30 men, all with lockers. All dressing rooms have toilets and showers. The theater conforms to Actors' Equity Association Safe and Sanitary Code. There are steps from stage left and stage right to the orchestra floor. There are pass doors from stage left and stage right to orchestra floor. There is a cross-over behind rear wall and also one through the basement. Building is air conditioned. Stage monitor, video and call system to dressing rooms.
Loading
Two dock doors are 22'h x 14'w clear loading, level approach. 2 trucks can unload at one time. Straight shot into setup area adjacent to stage.
Truck approach to the loading door is east off Beach Avenue to door.
Truck and bus parking available.
If forklift is required it will be a rental.
Security
Backstage security handled principally by stage hands and in-house T-shirt personnel. No truck security provided unless requested in advance.

Emergency Provisions
Fire exits required beyond wings. Cable permitted in aisles, if taped. Controlled flash pots permitted, but must be cleared to meet house regulations. No smoking in entire building. Medical services provided if estimated attendance is over 1,000; this includes one emergancy medical technician and one emergency first aid facility. Ambulance available upon request.
Additional Comments
If meals are served to road crew, it is required that meals also be served to all in-house crew working set-up if meal break is not provided. Early communication of requirements is essential for some productions. Stephens has a varied inventory of in-house equipment, and machine and carpenter shop capabilities; thus we are able to provide many services. We are interested in providing for your needs. Please avail yourself of our capabilities through early and precise communication.
Directions to Auditorium
Arriving in Ames, Iowa on I-35 from north or south, take US 30 WEST exit.
Then travel west on US 30 to third exit, ELWOOD DRIVE.
Exit northbound onto Elwood Drive, travel thru S-curve past Cyclone football stadium.
You will now see large parking lot to your left.
The Iowa State Center buildings are beyond the parking lots.
Stephens Auditorium is the tall building on the west.
The loading dock doors face the large parking lots.
Arriving on US 30, take ELWOOD DRIVE exit and continue as above.
