]]> For more than 50 years, the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba has been instrumental in introducing Cuban and Latin American music to the international classical music community.

We’re thrilled to welcome them to Stephens during their first, historic 21-city tour of the United States.

Music Director Enrique Perez Mesa will share the podium with guest composer/conductor Guido Lopez-Gavilan in an evening of music by Gershwin, Schubert and Cuba’s own Ernesto Lecuona.

Pianist Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera joins the orchestra for Gershwin’s classic Rhapsody in Blue.

]]> If you were fortunate enough to experience the powerful and poetic playing of Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan when he was our Young Artist in residence back in 2011, you’ll understand why we are so delighted to welcome him back to the Iowa State Center.

This time he’s taking the stage at Stephens as a featured soloist with the acclaimed Estonian National Symphony. The symphony has grown since its 1926 founding as a small radio orchestra, powerfully increasing its international scope with works from the Baroque period to premiere performances of modern works.

The program is scheduled to include works by Estonian composers, such as VELJO TORMIS’s Overture No.2 , DVOŘÁK’s Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104, and SIBELIUS’s Symphony No.5 in E-flat major, Op.82.
