Technical Information

Production Personnel Hilton Coliseum is not a union house, but is in the jurisdictional area of IATSE Local 67 Stagehands are directly responsible to the Hilton Technical Director, who should be contacted for stagehand information Specialized staff can be provided with ample prior notification Ushers, stagehands, concessionaires, uniformed and T-shirt security personnel, box office personnel, parking attendants, custodians, and medical attendants are provided at sponsor’s cost

Rigging

  • Roof has a false ceiling; beams are cleared for rigging
  • Weight limitations are determined by point load
  • All rigging must be approved in advance by Hilton Technical Director (send rigging plot showing true point locations and loads)
  • Typical -
    • 3 beams over stage area:
    • Run parallel to front edge of standard 40’ deep stage
    • 28’6” center of beam to center of beam.
  • Choice of rigging beams varies within stage location
  • Experienced, qualified riggers are provided

Dressing rooms and facilities

  • All rooms are lockable and keys can be provided with prior notification; security for these rooms provided through Patron Services Manager
  • Water source backstage capable of 120 gpm at 75 psi or more
  • Drain backstage
  • Crew bus parking and power available near backstage entrance to Coliseum (2 - 50 amp 220v circuits)



Security

  • Uniformed police required; however, backstage security handled by Guest Services Manager
  • No truck security provided (unless requested in advance)
  • Security contact: Guest Services Manager



Catering

The Iowa State Center has an exclusive agreement with an outside caterer, who can provide for the catering needs of any event produced at the Center



Emergency Provisions

  • Fire exits required beyond wings
  • Cables permitted in aisles, if taped
  • Pyrotechnics are permitted, but must be liscensed and inspected by local fire marshall
  • No smoking in seating areas; smoking areas provided
  • Medical services mandatory if estimated attendance is over 1,000; this includes one emergency medical technician and one emergency first aid facility (2 of each for and estimated attendance over 3,000 and up to 6 for and estimated attendance over 6,000), cost available upon request
  • Ambulance available on request.



Additional Comments

  • Stagehands utilized are non-union professional hands supplemented by I.A.T.S.E. when needed
  • Stagehands are experienced and well-trained
  • There is a 5 hour mandatory meal break
  • Through a varied inventory of in-house equipment and machine and carpenter shop capabilities, we are able to provide many services. We are interested in providing for your needs. Please avail yourself of our capabilities. Early and precise communication of requirements is essential for some productions.
