Direct from Beijing, the orchestra will present a stunning program including the first movement of Requiem for the Earth, written for the people of the Sechuan province following the devastating earthquake four years ago; The Yellow River Piano Concerto and the epic tone poem Ein Heldenleben.

The concert feature Guest Conductor En Shao and pianist Muye Wu.

This event includes an Overture Dinner and a Celebrity Café Speaker. Additionally, this is an On Stage event.

Jonathan Sturm, ISU Professor of Music

Jonathan Sturm is one of a rare few musicians who can bring excellence to the complete spectrum of music: performance as a violin soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster of the Des Moines Symphony, as a violist in the internationally acclaimed Ames Piano Quartet, and as professor of Music History at Iowa State University. He is on the faculty at Iowa State University and was awarded the 2009 Excellence in Teaching Award in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Celebrity Café Speaker (30 minutes prior to show)

ISU Professor Emeritus of Music Jeffrey Prater will be joined by Cinian Zheng Durbin in discussing CNSO’s program.
