Iowa State Center Part-Time Job Descriptions

House Staff

• Assists Patrons to their seats.
• Provides information on the location of telephones, restrooms, concessions stands and other amenities.
• Answers patrons' questions.
• Distributes programs.
• Takes tickets.

Ticket Office

• Assist guests in purchasing Iowa State Center tickets and tickets for other venues.
• Take phone calls and answer questions.
• Assist with office duties, including filing and copying.

Custodial Staff

• Team cleans all public and private areas of the four Center buildings including restrooms/locker rooms/dressing rooms, offices and meeting rooms, hallways and lobbies, and theater seating.
• Maintains custodial storage areas and equipment.
• Picks up litter on Center grounds and parking lots.
• Provides custodial services during events.
• Other duties include carpet and floor maintainance, window washing and detail cleaning.
• Hours vary and it can be expected that most hours occur after events.
• Work duration averages 2 to 3 hours.
• Custodial crew should be available for calls on short notice.

Technical Operations Crew

• Responsible for setting up and tearing down events (Concerts, Athletic Games, Conferences, Plays) in Hilton Coliseum, Stephens Auditorium, Fisher Theater, and Concerts in Cyclone Stadium. This includes:
• Loading and unloading trucks.
• Pushing boxes.
• Laying cable.
• Setting up lighting and sound equipment.
• Provides security during shows at Hilton Coliseum.
• Cleaning up the seating areas after concerts and athletics games in Hilton Coliseum.
• Work is of a physical nature under the supervision of experienced personnel.
• No experience is necessary.
• Hours vary according to event load (no fixed hours per week)
• Scheduling is very flexible (this makes a great 2nd or 3rd job)

Traffic Crew

• Directs traffic and controls parking spaces at public events such as concerts and basketball games.
• Special training is required.
• Work is outside, often in inclement weather.

Concessions Staff

• Assists with the preparation, serving, and sales of concessions sales items (popcorn, soda, nachos, beer)
• Assists with the set up of concessions related equipment and sales items.
• Assists with the upkeep, cleaning and maintenance of concessions stands and equipment.
• Handles sales/money transactions (makes correct change)
• Maintains individual sales areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Handles the service of alcoholic beverages in accordance with the policies of the Iowa State Center and the laws of the State of Iowa.
• Performs related concessions duties as assigned
• Bartending

Conference Services

• Performs basic setup activities including moving tables, chairs, and booth materials. Will learn vaious room set-ups and configurations.
• Assists in maintaining the general appearance of the Scheman building during daily activities and setups. Involves light cleaning duties and maintenance activities.
• In-training position to prepare general media services. Some training may lead to operation of sound and lighting equipment.
• Technical aptitude necessary but no experience required. Work is of a physical nature under supervision by experienced personnel.

Performs related Conference Services duties as assigned.
